A Post Office as a vacation rental? Yes - Absolutely. This spectacular renovated building started as a barn on a nearby island in the 1800's. The downstairs of this historic building has been the working local post office since 1931. Upstairs, insulated from any noise of a small village meeting place, is the open loft style apartment, with soaring cathedral ceilings. Designed and decorated like a historic Maine cottage. Comfortably furnished, this property is the perfect romantic getaway. A great location, with amenities close by. The modern, cozy kitchen will support all of your cooking needs. Plenty of inside dining areas, as well as dining al fresco on the deck, right next to the kitchen. The loft and cupola are private retreats for children in your party, just like sleeping in a tree house! The views from the cupola are panoramic, with a peek of the ocean in the distance. There's a private deck off the back offering beautiful views of our gardens, where you can eat dinner and watch the sunset. The gardens and expansive lawn, lead to a small pond where you can sit next to the fire pit and roast marshmallows. Next door is the 'world's best' general store with 'award winning' breakfasts and lunches served daily. Owls Head is a secluded and scenic buoy and lobster pot dotted peninsula, one of Maine's authentic waterfront colonies. Centrally located in midcoast Maine, it is the perfect starting point for day-trip adventures. Rockland is only 5 minutes away and 15 minutes to Camden, both offer great shopping, museums, art galleries and festivals. Only 3 minutes down the road is our favorite (award winning) farm to table restaurant, Primo's. There are so many amazing restaurants and lobster shacks close by. Turns out, you can get there and almost anywhere from here!

Cottage (1800 sq. ft.) in Islesboro, ME
0 miles from Camden
Many people have told us that our home is one of the most charming on Islesboro. The house retains the character of the original summer house built in 1908, and it sits in a very special place - a narrow peninsula of land giving the house oceanfront at its front and back. A long porch at the front of the house is just 7 feet up and 12 feet back from high tide. And the shore is actually a sandy beach, something very rare along this stretch of the Maine coast. If you are a boater, there are moorings available just off shore. The front of the house faces Sabbathday Harbor & Ryder's Cove, around which cottages such as this one were built around 1900 by families coming down for the summer from Bangor on the steamboats that in those days made regular stops at Ryder's Cove. Further out on the narrow peninsula there is a rocky promontory from which still other ocean views can be had. The whole area has a magic that words cannot describe. The house sleeps 6-10 persons (best fit for ~4 adults/4 children or 6 adults). There are 3 bedrooms, 1 additional room, and 1 full bath on the second floor (queen-size bed in one bdrm, two single beds in another, queen size bed in another, and two twin beds in the other room). There is also an office on the first floor with a full size sleep sofa. And there is a half bath on the first floor. The first floor has a large open area for living and dining, an enclosed sun porch, and a kitchen. There are many window on the first floor, particularly on the glassed-in sun porch, which has an especially light and airy feel to it. The furnishings are in keeping with the age of the home. The house was built in 1907/1908. One hundred years later, over the winters of 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, major restoration/repair of the house was completed including installation of foundation piers, restoration of south side porch, interior structural improvements (e.g., stiffening of second floor), removal of modern sheet rock in one bedroom, changes to second floor windows to make them impervious to weather, new hardwood floors, new roof and some new siding shingles, restoration of inoperable doors and windows, removal of thick/peeling old paint on trim and repainting. More recently, in 2011, additional restoration and improvements were made, including installation of foundation piers and new floor for the sun porch; lengthening of kitchen counter with new dishwasher; and construction of a new shed for garden tools All of the work was done with a careful eye to maintaining or restoring the original character of the house. Available for Rental: Memorial Day - Columbus Day; Weekly rentals (7 night minimum); Sunday - Sunday.

House (1500 sq. ft.) in Rockport, ME
0 miles from Camden
Built in 1850, remodeled in 1989 for a comfortable lifestyle, all on one floor! Right across the street from Rockport Opera house, with a sunny southern exposure and a wrap around porch. Walk easily to 18 Central and the Nina June Cafe in the same block. This would be a great house to rent while taking a class at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship or the Maine Media Workshop. Perfect too for attending the Bay Chamber concerts right across the street in the Opera House or at Union Hall . The house has a number of comfy chairs for sitting and reading, and a desk situated next to a window overlooking the harbor for writing. It is a restful house, but there are plenty of adventures to be had in the surrounding Camden hills or inland- day sails on a schooner, hiking, kayaking. Our two bedrooms each open onto the kitchen/dining area, and each has a full bathroom. Each one has an air conditioner, although it is rarely needed. How many times we visited here in the summer, leaving a hot steamy Boston, and found Rockport chilled by a fog bank. Mom would say, 'Always bring a sweater when you come to Maine!' This house is perfect for two couples on a getaway weekend, or as a home base during a longer visit to New England. We have all the linens you need, and a well supplied kitchen for cooks. Soap is supplied as well as access to washer and dryer.

Dine on the covered porch and enjoy the view. Some changes have taken place during its life but Solsidan retains the original wood open-wall construction. Enjoy the rustic charm of an original 1800s Bayside gingerbread cottage! Savor the view from the front porch, relax with a good book, or chat with neighbors as they stroll by -- this is a friendly summer community! Dyer Cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms (one queen, one double and a set of twins) and one bath. We furnish bed linens, but you should plan to bring your own towels. Porch furniture, charcoal grill and picnic table provided. Email or call for availability, June through Labor Day. Visible from the front porch, the water's edge is just a block away -- as is the Village Center, a family-friendly focal point for summer fun. Children frolic on the playground swings, while older kids play pick-up games on the basketball court. At the Village pier and float, children of all ages splash in the bay under the careful watch of a lifeguard. Youngsters can learn to sail in classes offered through the Village Yacht Club. Rental kayaks are available nearby, and can be beached here. Many summer residents are sailors, and their moored boats dot the Bayside shoreline. Northport Golf Club is just a few blocks away and welcomes visitors. Historic Bayside: Established as a Wesleyan summer camp meeting community in the 1800s, Bayside's original homes -- tents on wooden platforms -- were subsequently transformed into Victorian gingerbread cottages that now are gaily painted in a variety of hues. The village comes to life during the summer season, with American flags flying, colorful flowers overflowing their planter boxes, cats snoozing in the sun, residents rocking on their front porches, and friendly folks strolling the streets and socializing along the way. Nearby Attractions: From Bayside, it's just a short drive to Lincolnville Beach, where the ferry leaves for Islesboro. A few miles farther down are hiking trails in the Camden Hills (Mt. Battie), and the beautiful town and harbor of Camden. The Farnsworth Museum, famous for its Wyeth collection and more, is situated not far beyond Camden in Rockland, another seaport, which offers day cruises and overnight windjammer sails. A little farther down the coast you can cruise to Puffin Island, where the birds were reintroduced successfully in the 1980s, or visit a botanical garden in Boothbay Harbor. In the opposite direction, you can head into picturesque Belfast with its new shipbuilding facility and small working harbor. In Searsport, don't miss the Penobscot Marine Museum with its historical perspective on the area's seafaring days. Farther East are the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, and historic Fort Knox. On up the coast are spectacular Acadia National Park (not to be missed!) and the towns of Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor and Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island. There you can go sightseeing, whale-watching, island-hopping, and more. En route you'll pass a water park in Ellsworth, mini-golf, and other attractions. Antiques shops, art galleries and restaurants abound throughout the Midcoast Region. Countless families make Bayside their annual vacation destination throughout their children's growing up years -- and beyond. Kids who come for successive summers establish lifelong friendships.

Appliances include modern fridge, stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee makers, washing machine and dryer. The property is located on 3 beautiful acres! You can easily sleep 6 in the two double beds and the sofa bed in the living room. I also provide a queen sized air mattress as well. There is a flat screen TV with Direct TV for your use, plus internet service with wireless service. All of the amenities of home, but in this beautiful and tranquil setting. This is also a wonderful winter getaway. The property is fully heated and has a wood burning stove as well!!! Please note that the cottage is not waterfront property, although it is only 400 ft. from the lake. We do have a deeded access (our land) to the water just 1 minute away which is there for your use - albeit access with no dock. Public access to the public beach is only a few minutes away as well as a public boat launch. Also, for liability reasons there are no canoes or kayaks that come with the property, but are easily and cheaply rented.

House (2800 sq. ft.) in Camden, ME
0 miles from Camden
Owl`s Drift is located in the beautiful seaside village of Camden. It sits snugly on Pleasant Street, one of Camden`s quaint tree-lined side streets. Truly an in-town retreat with private gardens and a courtyard bounded by evergreens — guests may never suspect the village is just a five-minute walk away, complete with shops, restaurants, cultural events, and the beautiful waterfront and windjammers the town is famous for. Recently completed is a restoration of the attached barn which is now a seasonal and completely unique addition to the house. Keeping the rustic charm of the barn, this space is now a library, an entertaining room, game room — truly multipurpose with doors out to the English gardens. Upstairs find a king bed and 2 twins in the upstairs loft — this is a great place for sleeping in warmer weather! Owl`s Drift can sleep a total of 8 in three bedrooms and has three full bathrooms. As comfortable for 2 as it is for 8, Owl`s Drift is a well-appointed, year-round retreat. Built in 1832, Owl`s Drift was completely renovated in 2010–2011 by local master craftsman Gregory Moore. Preserving the historical detail of the house was paramount and yet modern conveniences, necessities, and luxuries were cleverly incorporated. Owl`s Drift truly embraces the old and the new. On the first floor, a sunny, well-equipped, custom kitchen is finished with beautiful granite countertops, a gas stove, a slate apron sink, dishwasher and a dining alcove. The kitchen opens into a living room accented with a fireplace (controlled by remote) and original Parson`s Cupboards above the mantel. Truly comfortable furnishings complete this room perfectly. A relaxed den off the living room offers a flat-screen television with cable, high speed Internet connection, and the house`s second remote-controlled propane fireplace. One of the Owl`s Drift`s two master bedrooms is on the first floor. Known as the Yellow Room, this comfortably furnished room offers a queen-sized, four-poster bed. The fully renovated bathroom has been customized with a Greek soaking tub. This floor`s second bathroom is outfitted with a custom standup shower and also contains the laundry room. Upstairs find the Elephant Room, Owl`s Drift`s second queen-bedded master. This bedroom is spacious, made cozy with drawers built into the eaves and custom-designed bookshelves tucked into the corners. Down the hall find the third bathroom complete with a claw-foot porcelain tub. Tucked in the eaves at the back of the house is the Red Room; a darling room with 4 twin beds. The property has recently seen the complete renovation of the attached post and beam barn. Outfitted with stunning antiques and comfortable furnishings, this section of the house can be used as a den or sitting room, a exceedingly quiet place to read and a fantastic place to visit. It offers two parties privacy but close proximity: a lawn separates the two buildings by 50'. Access to two beaches (rocky and pebble) and the pier, along a dirt road, is a two-minute walk. Views of the harbor and the sunsets over the Camden Hills are breathtaking. The Barnacle proper was completely renovated in 2016, with new picture windows taking advantage of the views. The first floor: the open living space includes kitchen and dining areas and opens onto a deck; new kitchen is fully equipped with quiet dishwasher etc.; full bathroom; one bedroom (dbl bed). The hand-made fish-shaped railings and open staircase lead to 2nd floor with 3 bedrooms (1 Queen, 2 twins, child's platform bed). The "in-law cabin" is a one-room efficiency, with a comfy double bed, kitchen area, bathroom, and washer-dryer. The in-law cabin also has great views.

House (1200 sq. ft.) in Union, ME

Situated on the shores of pristine and private Crawford Pond, The Lake House is the ultimate Maine lakefront vacation rental! We like it because it is family friendly with comfortable and usable outdoor spaces ranging from a sandy approach to the lake, a dock, kayaks and shaded deck space. Spend the day reading, fishing, visiting, walking, boating, swimming…if you want to do it, this is the place where it can happen. The Lake House has three bedrooms and three bathrooms, a sleeping nook in the balcony and extra beds in a finished section of the walk out basement. The master has an Olympic queen bed with a full en suite bathroom. The other two bedrooms have two twins and one queen – these bedrooms are connected by a full Jack and Jill bathroom. Outside these bedrooms, find a cozy little alcove with a futon – perfect for an overnight guest or someone who needs a little less privacy then other guests. The first floor has a large, fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar and banquet that can seat the full house. There is a full bathroom (shower) on the first floor along with a living room accented by vaulted ceilings and a large stone fireplace. There is a den area as well with a large screen television and lots of comfortable seating. A finished section of the basement can sleep additional guests in 2 double beds if overflow sleeping space is needed. Outside, the property is surrounded by mature trees and a lush green lawn. The waterfront is child friendly with a sandy bottom gently sloping into the lake. There is a dock to fish, swim or launch kayaks or canoes from. You can also relax in the hammock lakeside.. The deck is multi-level with a sitting area, complete with Adirondack chairs and a fire pit, a full length deck with a relaxed patio set and a lower level with a pergola and more formal outdoor dining area. Ferry away from your hectic life. Rejuvenate and decompress at Crow's Nest Cottage, on Islesboro Island, in Midcoast Maine. Reconnect with your partner and your family in this incredible get-away-from-it-all place 20 minutes by public State of Maine ferry off the Maine coast. Reserve a summer week now - - or two or even three weeks - - at our cozy, comfortable, very clean, cottage on magical Islesboro Island. The sooner you reserve, the more likely you are to get your preferred week. Crow's Nest is a GREAT VALUE FOR A FABULOUS LOCATION! We rent our cottage by the week (Saturday until Saturday) from the third week of June through the third week of September. The last two weeks in July and the first three weeks in August are the most desired. We have proudly shared Crow's Nest Cottage since 2006 with over one hundred families. Their testimonials (see our own website maineislandhouserental) speak loudly about their wonderful memories of perfect vacations at Crow's Nest Cottage. A happy guest said it best: "This week was exactly what we needed! This house is just perfect - -thank you for all the amazing touches that make it feel like home! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous home with us. This is a gem on the crown of an amazing secret of an island. We loved every minute!" This is a place that 'time forgot.' Think 19th century Vermont transported to an island in the ocean! The cottage has Internet any time you want to get back into the 21st century! Crow's Nest cottage is an easy 20 minutes by ferry off the gorgeous Maine coast. Fully renovated, Crow's Nest cottage is located at the northern, rural end of legendary Islesboro Island, considered by many the most beautiful of all Maine islands. The cottage faces the Meadow Pond, a quiet, lush wildlife refuge. It sleeps 4 comfortably in the 2 bedrooms; the living room has a Queen-size futon for a 5th adult or your teenager. We have a MAXIMUM limit of 5 people. Many quiet beaches are minutes away by car. The cottage has a marvelous, large deck. This is a SMOKE-FREE home. NO PETS PLEASE. The cottage's spacious, light-filled bathroom has an old-fashioned tub with hand-held shower unit. We do NOT have a conventional stand-up shower. Guests frequently tell us that Crow's Nest Cottage is like a home away from home. As one family said, "this is by far the best equipped rental house we have ever stayed in! The Peebles provided everything one could imagine needing!" Islesboro is a very quiet vacation spot. If you are looking for beauty and tranquility, for peace and quiet, and a "low-key" vacation spot, you'll love Islesboro Island and Crow's Nest Cottage. If you are looking for lots of restaurant options, movie theaters, amusement parks, bars, fast food, shopping, and crowds, Islesboro Island is NOT the place for you. Our Meadow Pond Neighborhood: Crows Nest cottage is located “up-island” and looks across to the 20 acre, fresh water, Meadow Pond, a neat wildlife refuge for deer, birds, ducks, turtles, beaver, etc. You need a car on the island to get to the 2 small grocery stores, to the 2 restaurants and ice cream parlor, for speedy trips to local beaches and public playground, and to get to the ferry. The island has hundreds of secluded and hidden coves and beaches. If you love the splendor of the Atlantic Ocean and wild Maine coast without droves of tourists, Islesboro is your place. There are dozens of secluded, beautiful coves and beaches -- both sandy and rocky -- within a 5 to 15 minute drive from the cottage. Or, pack a backpack and bike (or walk!!) to them....Explore them on foot or in a kayak. Pack picnic lunches and suppers and play Robinson Crusoe on your "private" island. One family happily emailed us: "What an amazing week we had! We spent countless hours walking on so many beaches! We collected so many shells and sea glass, they will be our priceless treasure forever - - so great!" VISIT OUR PERSONAL WEBSITE FOR DOZENS OF GUEST REVIEWS, BEGINNING IN 2006, AND MANY MORE PHOTOS & DETAILED INFORMATION RE THE COTTAGE AND ISLAND! The link to our website is at the bottom of the "Amenities" page. Please scroll down to the end to read more about our PAYMENT and CANCELLATION policies. White-washed antique barn board brightens the central living area. High ceilings throughout make the cottage light & airy. It's owned by an artist & maintained by her energetic handy man. At times, River's Edge is owner occupied & is then given the careful attention & feeling of 'home' you'll find & enjoy. Amenities include bed linens, plenty of fluffy towels, telephone, toaster, microwave oven, coffee maker, lobster pot, dishes/utensils, outdoor gas BBQ grill, cable TV, DVD player, high speed WiFi Internet access for your computer. A Comfortable, Peaceful Setting: River's Edge is a retreat for the artist, writer & poet in you--a cozy vacation home on the Megunticook River with views of lovely Mount Battie. To your left, up river, is a dam that forms Lake Megunticook. About two miles down river is another dam, the Seabright, which creates this most peaceful section of river for your enjoyment. You will find it perfect for swimming, floating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing or sunning on its banks. It is a rare quiet spot without the motor boats, water skiing or jet skis you may like to enjoy on the Lake, which are accessible just around the corner. River's Edge has a floating dock, shared with a friendly neighbor, on the beautiful river & nearly 500' of shoreline. Half the property is woodsy. Ceiling & floor fans, monitor & electric heaters. Weekly maid service is provided. You may request more frequent maid service for an extra charge. Grocery provisioning in advance or mid-week. Babysitting available. Well behaved PETS are welcome. An Artist's Well-loved Cabin: River's Edge was built in 1970 as a family summer place, situated on land that was once a pasture serving the farm house which still stands across the street. Sheep grazed here, an apple orchard bloomed & a small barn stood near the road. When the cottage was built, the old barn's original wide pine siding was used inside the living room. The cottage is comfortable & relaxing. Now white-washed, the antique barn board brightens the central living area. High ceilings throughout make it light & airy. River’s Edge is owned by an artist & maintained by her energetic handy man. The home is well equipped for the comfort of up to 4 adults. You will find 2 bedrooms, one with a queen-size bed, another with a twin set. The bathroom has a tub, shower, plenty of hot water & fluffy towels. The kitchen is roomy & all set with everything you need for cooking up a storm, including a large, vintage, restored refrigerator, new gas range & oven & new microwave. There is a large gas grill just outside. Summer in Camden, Maine: There is a large color TV with cable & DVD player. Several shops in Camden rent current & classic films on DVD. The sectional sofa was added in 2006 and is all ready & comfortable for afternoon napping. Or, you could nod off on a lounge chair down on the floating dock. River's Edge is a place to be close to nature. The wildflowers have a timing and cycle all their own. Lupine are followed by Day Lilies, Queen Anne's Lace, then Daisies in many varieties, Black eyed Susans, Goldenrod, and many more which you can have fun identifying. There are wildflower reference books at the house; enjoy & use them on your walks. The wildflowers attract droves of butterflies & hummingbirds. You'll see Swallowtail & Monarch, as well as others more exotic & rare. See NOTES section under RATES for detailed cancellation policy.

House in Rockland, ME
0 miles from Camden
For more than 150 years, the Captain’s Quarters has looked out over Rockland Harbor. A townhouse in the truest sense of the word, this duplex was originally built for two sisters who wanted to live and raise their families next to each other. Located in the heart of Rockland, Captain’s Quarters is one side of this completely renovated Coastal Maine Vacation Rental. No expense was spared when the house was redone in 2016 and it shows, in and out.  The classic design of the house was kept intact (think original pine floors, decorative yet understated newel posts, lofty spaces and oversized windows) but the house has been overhauled from the studs out adding modern elements and necessities. A fantastic, shaded backyard makes you forget you are in town…the 3-minute walk to virtually everything in downtown Rockland reminds you that you are. The first floor has entry from the front and the back – a mudroom with a half bathroom is at the back of the house and enters directly into the large, eat-in kitchen. The dining area seats 6 easily with additional space at the large, center island. Beautiful honed granite countertops offer space for meal prep of any size and the kitchen is fully equipped. Rockland’s restaurant scene is tempting to say the least, but if you want to eat in, this kitchen is totally prepared. Off the kitchen is a cozy living room with a flat screen TV and very comfortable seating. The second floor has two bedrooms and a full bathroom with a laundry room. Both bedrooms have queen beds – one bedroom has more of a city view and the other overlooks the backyard. The third floor encompasses the newly reclaimed and renovated attic space. With high ceilings and an amazing two panel skylight that offers stunning water views, this bedroom has two twin beds, a sitting area with a flat screen TV and a desk for those who need to get a little work done while on vacation. You can literally walk out your front door and walk to Harbor Park, home to several wonderful festivals, Farmer’s Markets, community activities, a day sail on a schooner, the multi-dimensional waterfront, restaurants, shops, galleries, museums and the amazing Strand Theater. Park your car…you won’t need it unless you want to spend a day exploring easily accessible areas like the St. George Peninsula (Port Clyde/Tenants Harbor), Camden, Boothbay, Belfast or Bar Harbor.
