A Post Office as a vacation rental? Yes - Absolutely. This spectacular renovated building started as a barn on a nearby island in the 1800's. The downstairs of this historic building has been the working local post office since 1931. Upstairs, insulated from any noise of a small village meeting place, is the open loft style apartment, with soaring cathedral ceilings. Designed and decorated like a historic Maine cottage. Comfortably furnished, this property is the perfect romantic getaway. A great location, with amenities close by. The modern, cozy kitchen will support all of your cooking needs. Plenty of inside dining areas, as well as dining al fresco on the deck, right next to the kitchen. The loft and cupola are private retreats for children in your party, just like sleeping in a tree house! The views from the cupola are panoramic, with a peek of the ocean in the distance (seasonally). There's a private deck off the back offering beautiful views of our gardens, where you can eat dinner and watch the sunset. The gardens and expansive lawn, lead to a small pond where you can sit next to the fire pit and roast marshmallows. Owls Head is a secluded and scenic buoy and lobster pot dotted peninsula, one of Maine's authentic waterfront colonies. Centrally located in midcoast Maine, it is the perfect starting point for day-trip adventures. Rockland is only 5 minutes away and 15 minutes to Camden, both offer great shopping, museums, art galleries and festivals. Next door is the "world's best" general store with "award winning" breakfasts and lunches served daily. Grocery items, soda, and wine available for you to take along on your daily adventures. A five minute walk down the hill takes you to a wharf, where you can buy lobster right off the boat. Only 3 minutes down the road is our favorite (award winning) farm to table restaurant, Primo's. There are so many amazing restaurants and lobster shacks close by. Turns out, you can get there and almost anywhere from here!

House (1800 sq. ft.) in Islesboro, ME
0 miles from Camden
Many people have told us that our home is one of the most charming on Islesboro. The house retains the character of the original summer house built in 1908, and it sits in a very special place - a narrow peninsula of land giving the house oceanfront at its front and back. A long porch at the front of the house is just 7 feet up and 12 feet back from high tide. And the shore is actually a sandy beach, something very rare along this stretch of the Maine coast. If you are a boater, there are moorings available just off shore. The front of the house faces Sabbathday Harbor & Ryder's Cove, around which cottages such as this one were built around 1900 by families coming down for the summer from Bangor on the steamboats that in those days made regular stops at Ryder's Cove. Further out on the narrow peninsula there is a rocky promontory from which still other ocean views can be had. The whole area has a magic that words cannot describe. The house sleeps 6-10 persons (best fit for ~4 adults/4 children or 6 adults). There are 3 bedrooms, 1 additional room, and 1 full bath on the second floor (queen-size bed in one bdrm, two single beds in another, queen size bed in another, and two twin beds in the other room). There is also an office on the first floor with a full size sleep sofa. And there is a half bath on the first floor. The first floor has a large open area for living and dining, an enclosed sun porch, and a kitchen. There are many window on the first floor, particularly on the glassed-in sun porch, which has an especially light and airy feel to it. The furnishings are in keeping with the age of the home. The house was built in 1907/1908. One hundred years later, over the winters of 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, major restoration/repair of the house was completed including installation of foundation piers, restoration of south side porch, interior structural improvements (e.g., stiffening of second floor), removal of modern sheet rock in one bedroom, changes to second floor windows to make them impervious to weather, new hardwood floors, new roof and some new siding shingles, restoration of inoperable doors and windows, removal of thick/peeling old paint on trim and repainting. More recently, in 2011, additional restoration and improvements were made, including installation of foundation piers and new floor for the sun porch; lengthening of kitchen counter with new dishwasher; and construction of a new shed for garden tools All of the work was done with a careful eye to maintaining or restoring the original character of the house. Available for Rental: Memorial Day - Columbus Day; Weekly rentals (7 night minimum); Sunday - Sunday.

Built in 1850, remodeled in 1989 for a comfortable lifestyle, all on one floor! Right across the street from Rockport Opera house, with a sunny southern exposure and a wrap around porch. Walk easily to 18 Central and the Nina June Cafe in the same block. This would be a great house to rent while taking a class at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship or the Maine Media Workshop. Perfect too for attending the Bay Chamber concerts right across the street in the Opera House or at Union Hall . The house has a number of comfy chairs for sitting and reading, and a desk situated next to a window overlooking the harbor for writing. It is a restful house, but there are plenty of adventures to be had in the surrounding Camden hills or inland- day sails on a schooner, hiking, kayaking. Our two bedrooms each open onto the kitchen/dining area, and each has a full bathroom. Each one has an air conditioner, although it is rarely needed. How many times we visited here in the summer, leaving a hot steamy Boston, and found Rockport chilled by a fog bank. Mom would say, 'Always bring a sweater when you come to Maine!' This house is perfect for two couples on a getaway weekend, or as a home base during a longer visit to New England. We have all the linens you need, and a well supplied kitchen for cooks. Soap is supplied as well as access to washer and dryer.

Enjoy the rustic charm of an original 1800s Bayside gingerbread cottage! Savor the view from the front porch, relax with a good book, or chat with neighbors as they stroll by -- this is a friendly summer community! Dyer Cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms (one queen, one double and a set of twins) and one bath. We furnish bed linens, but you should plan to bring your own towels. Porch furniture, charcoal grill and picnic table provided. Email or call for availability, June through Labor Day. Visible from the front porch, the water's edge is just a block away -- as is the Village Center, a family-friendly focal point for summer fun. Children frolic on the playground swings, while older kids play pick-up games on the basketball court. At the Village pier and float, children of all ages splash in the bay under the careful watch of a lifeguard. Youngsters can learn to sail in classes offered through the Village Yacht Club. Rental kayaks are available nearby, and can be beached here. Many summer residents are sailors, and their moored boats dot the Bayside shoreline. Northport Golf Club is just a few blocks away and welcomes visitors. Historic Bayside: Established as a Wesleyan summer camp meeting community in the 1800s, Bayside's original homes -- tents on wooden platforms -- were subsequently transformed into Victorian gingerbread cottages that now are gaily painted in a variety of hues. The village comes to life during the summer season, with American flags flying, colorful flowers overflowing their planter boxes, cats snoozing in the sun, residents rocking on their front porches, and friendly folks strolling the streets and socializing along the way. Nearby Attractions: From Bayside, it's just a short drive to Lincolnville Beach, where the ferry leaves for Islesboro. A few miles farther down are hiking trails in the Camden Hills (Mt. Battie), and the beautiful town and harbor of Camden. The Farnsworth Museum, famous for its Wyeth collection and more, is situated not far beyond Camden in Rockland, another seaport, which offers day cruises and overnight windjammer sails. A little farther down the coast you can cruise to Puffin Island, where the birds were reintroduced successfully in the 1980s, or visit a botanical garden in Boothbay Harbor. In the opposite direction, you can head into picturesque Belfast with its new shipbuilding facility and small working harbor. In Searsport, don't miss the Penobscot Marine Museum with its historical perspective on the area's seafaring days. Farther East are the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory, and historic Fort Knox. On up the coast are spectacular Acadia National Park (not to be missed!) and the towns of Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor and Southwest Harbor on Mount Desert Island. There you can go sightseeing, whale-watching, island-hopping, and more. En route you'll pass a water park in Ellsworth, mini-golf, and other attractions. Antiques shops, art galleries and restaurants abound throughout the Midcoast Region. Countless families make Bayside their annual vacation destination throughout their children's growing up years -- and beyond. Kids who come for successive summers establish lifelong friendships.

This wonderful, modern year round cottage offers everything you would need for a family vacation. Don't settle for an "old in the tooth" property! You are in the heart of the most prime vacation region of Maine - located by beautiful Pitcher Pond, and minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Camden, Rockport, and Belfast - you have access to boating, fishing, hiking, or just lounging around. Just a quick bike ride, or nice hike, and you are at one of the best organic farms in the area - just buy from the roadside stand. The cottage is turn key. Just bring some food…and all the rest is there waiting for you - including the bar-b-q! A spacious kitchen, large sitting room, and a huge deck awaits you. There are 2 bedrooms - one with an ensuite bathroom. There is also a 2nd full bathroom as well. Appliances include modern fridge, stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee makers, washing machine and dryer. The property is located on 3 beautiful acres! You can easily sleep 6 in the two double beds and the sofa bed in the living room. There is a flat screen TV with Direct TV for your use, plus internet service with wireless service. All of the amenities of home, but in this beautiful and tranquil setting. This is also a wonderful winter getaway. The property is fully heated and has a wood burning stove as well!!! Please note that the cottage is not waterfront property, although it is only 400 ft. from the lake. We do have a deeded access (our land) to the water just 1 minute away which is there for your use. Public access to the public beach is only a few minutes away as well as a public boat launch. Also, for liability reasons there are no canoes or kayaks that come with the property, but are easily and cheaply rented.

I am beginning my fifth summer hosting--it is so fabulous to meet guests from all over the world once again. It was necessary to unlist last summer due to Covid. Read the reviews and come stay and you will love it. Covid Rule for booking: I would like to know if you have had vaccines and if not, if you would object to a local Negative Covid test, then you will not want to book here. I have to protect myself (I have been vaccinated) and all of my other guests. Note:: I do not take check-ins later than 8pm. Check-in is from 4-8 pm. I ask my guests to remember this when booking, as there have been one or two instances where guests don't realize or notice the timing. I am somewhat flexible in rare situations, but just need to know my guests ETA. My home is a 5 minute drive to iLncolnville Beach, a sweet small town beach with a Lobster Pound and a Lobster Shack, ferry and a few gift shops. Also near are Ducktrap River, Camden Harbor, Belfast Harbor, Megunticook Lake. The property is located midcoast for easy day trips to Portland, Bar Harbor, Blue Hill, many festivals, farmer's markets and fabulous restaurants and shopping. There are schooner trips from Camden Harbor, boat trips from Belfast, local fishing. and about 2 miles from Lincolnville Beach...a sweet, small beach town. There are also many places to rent kayaks and bicycles. I serve coffee and a snack in the morning, . Note: I have a two day minimum reservation and a 7 night maximum reservation. I do not accept pets, please do not ask. The Guest Studio is inside my home is totally private with several rooms and spaces between the Studio and kitchen, bathroom and my room. There seems to be a bit of confusion this year as inquires have been about a cottage. I have had the same language for 4 years. The Studio is called a Studio as it is two rooms combined, but open. The Studio living room is at one end with a gas Jotul stove for cool nights and Queen bed at the other end. The pictures are very accurate. There is a window air conditioner. The guest studio, has current photos -- many guests are surprised at the size and that the space actually looks as it does in the photos. Other: My home has 3 Queen size beds in 3 bedrooms. I will be renting out the entire house for $1800 for those guests who seem a great fit. The week I have available this summer is August 22-28. There is a separate listing on VRBO so please let me know if you want more info. As well, I am choosing a week in Oct. tentatively Oct. 9-15 for leaf peeping season.

House (2800 sq. ft.) in Camden, ME

Owl's Drift is located in the beautiful seaside village of Camden. It sits snugly on Pleasant Street, one of Camden's quaint tree-lined side streets. Truly an in-town retreat with private gardens and a courtyard bounded by evergreens — guests may never suspect the village is just a five-minute walk away, complete with shops, restaurants, cultural events, and the beautiful waterfront and windjammers the town is famous for. Recently completed is a restoration of the attached barn which is now a seasonal and completely unique addition to the house. Keeping the rustic charm of the barn, this space is now a library, an entertaining room, game room — truly multipurpose with doors out to the English gardens. Upstairs find a king bed and 2 twins in the upstairs loft — this is a great place for sleeping in warmer weather! Owl's Drift can sleep a total of 8 in three bedrooms and has three full bathrooms. As comfortable for 2 as it is for 8, Owl's Drift is a well-appointed, year-round retreat. Built in 1832, Owl's Drift was completely renovated in 2010–2011 by local master craftsman Gregory Moore. Preserving the historical detail of the house was paramount and yet modern conveniences, necessities, and luxuries were cleverly incorporated. Owl's Drift truly embraces the old and the new. On the first floor, a sunny, well-equipped, custom kitchen is finished with beautiful granite countertops, a gas stove, a slate apron sink, dishwasher and a dining alcove. The kitchen opens into a living room accented original Parson's Cupboards above the mantel. Truly comfortable furnishings complete this room perfectly. A relaxed den off the living room offers a flat-screen television with cable, high speed Internet connection. One of the Owl's Drift's two master bedrooms is on the first floor. Known as the Yellow Room, this comfortably furnished room offers a queen-sized, four-poster bed. The fully renovated bathroom has been customized with a Greek soaking tub. This floor's second bathroom is outfitted with a custom standup shower and also contains the laundry room. Upstairs find the Elephant Room, Owl's Drift's second queen-bedded master. This bedroom is spacious, made cozy with drawers built into the eaves and custom-designed bookshelves tucked into the corners. Down the hall find the third bathroom complete with a claw-foot porcelain tub. Tucked in the eaves at the back of the house is the Red Room; a darling room with 4 twin beds. The property has recently seen the complete renovation of the attached post and beam barn. Outfitted with stunning antiques and comfortable furnishings, this section of the house can be used as a den or sitting room, a exceedingly quiet place to read and a fantastic place to visit. House (1600 sq. ft.) in Rockport, ME

If you are looking for absolutely stunning views and a unique setting enjoyed in complete privacy five to eight minutes drive from two quaint harbor towns, then this vacation getaway is for you. Perched high on a mountainside, this house is of Log/Post and Beam construction with a very, very open floor plan (please read the description carefully to make sure it’s a goof fit), large wrap-around porch, lofts, cathedral ceiling, and with windows and skylights on all sides to let in the truly magnificent, commanding vistas. The house is a ski-lodge-style Post and Beam log house. It has a very open floor plan with visual privacy or potential visual privacy for the sleeping arrangements but no auditory privacy to speak of except in the downstairs powder room. With groups larger than one couple that needs to be considered, but those who book after my "open floor plan speech" reminder tend to have a wonderful time. It sleeps up to eight people in two open loft bedrooms and a cozy, visually private guestroom/library on two Queen sized beds, one Queen sofa bed and one full-sized futon pullout sofa, all very comfortable. There is a whirlpool tub and a stand-up shower, plus a half bath with sunken vessel sink. A country kitchen including a classic cast iron/enameled cook stove, gas range, and slate counter tops with silvan views from the sink. Elegant décor throughout. This house is intimate and romantic, while nature on all sides brings the outside in. Our View and our Unique Setting:: Forests below you and blueberry fields above, you look down over the lush treetops or pick your own blueberries in season above the house. All neighbors are acres away and almost completely invisible. You will have to crick your neck to see the rooftop of one of them behind you from the wide porch, and then you will only see a part of a roof. You may see bald eagles and hawks soar below you! The peace and quiet and privacy here will amaze you, and there is virtually no traffic near us as we are situated at the turnaround of a small paved road high on the slope, and at the end of a long, steep private drive. A discretely used, only occasionally occupied second building on the property is tucked away out of sight, you won't even know that it is there. On the surrounding mountains to the Ocean, on all sides you will see nothing but forests and meadows dotted by a few fine houses in the distance with their cheerful lights at night. You see dozens of the islands on the Ocean, with Cadillac Mountain in the distance on Mt. Desert Island in Acadia National Park 43 miles away, half that as the crow flies. Sea, Sky, Mountains, the Area:: The sunrise—if you are up for it—will sparkle on the water and sunsets will turn it a deep pink and the surrounding coastal mountains rose or gold. The area provides infinite possibility for the Nature lover, sailor, historian, art aficionado, birdwatcher or stargazer. For those who long for the water there are day sails, bareboat charters (better be an experienced skipper), lighthouse trips, lobster fishing cruises and eco-tours, lobster-bakes on islands, ferries, whale-watching, kayak and rafting trips, and three to six day nautical adventures on the classic tall ships and wooden schooners known locally and historically as Windjammers. For landlubbers there are hiking trails, starting right outside your door, all over Camden Hills State Park and beyond, as well as on breathtakingly beautiful trails known only to locals, which we will share with you when you come. If you are a bird lover, you will have an overwhelming chorus of birdsong right up at the house. The night sky is amazing. Dining, Art, Life-style:: There is world-class cuisine and all manner of dining experiences, from waterfront fish-shacks to French to be had in the area, as well as the Farnsworth Art Museum, home of the Wyeth collection, and historic old harbors and quaint, busy waterfronts everywhere, filled with fishing vessels, luxury yachts from all over the world, and classic wooden sailboats. The house is equipped with wireless access and cable. Outdoor equipment includes Adirondack chairs and barbecue grill; well-behaved pets allowed upon approval. Children always welcome, although the house is not specifically "childproofed"; also some care must be taken with the spiral staircase as well as the antiques, art and cultural objects, as many are fragile. Please take care of wicker furniture as well thanks. Free Wifi (fast and ready for work from home!) Air Conditioner (large window unit. Only needed occasionally in Maine but recent years especially summer 2018 changed things; normally (and famously!) the summer temps are mid-to upper 70’s to low 80’s....and comparatively dry air. There were some hot muggy days this year...so that option will be available to our summer and early fall guests!) Due to the coronavirus, we’re taking extra care to disinfect frequently touched surfaces between reservations
